Abstract
It is estimated that approximately 20-25% of nursing students in the United States speak English as an additional language. The failure rate, specifically for nursing students who speak English as an additional language, is approximately 1.5 to 2 times higher than native English-speaking students.
Nurse educators must be aware of the unique challenges faced by students who speak English as an additional language. In addition to fostering success in nursing school, strategic interventions will ensure the students success in their nursing careers.
